Well we need, all of us, to call up biologists such as Sherman Hebein, Dan Brauch, Bill Elmblad, Pat Martinez, and others. Demand that they begin to protect the lake trout in all lakes, not just blue mesa. The limit at Blue Mesa should be 2 Mackinaw, with only one fish greater than 30" allowed to be harvested.
I have seen two other fantastic laker fisheries go from big fish lakes to full of 18" dinks. Those are granby and turquiose reservoir. Both lakes used to produce a share of 20 - 30 pounders. Now fish above 6 pounds are uncommon, and 15 - 20" dinks rule the catch. So what does the CDOW do? Well, they only allow 2 lakers to be kept at Turquoise, so they have become overpopulated. Same at Granby, only two lakers. It should be 8 lakers for a while at both lakes, only one greater than 25" allowed in a daily bag limit.
I agree, big lakers and big fish in general suck on the table. They deserve to be in the water passing on those superior genes. I for one am not going to let the CDOW ruin any more fishing. Those of you that are with me, contact me at [url "mailto
