Where to drop to catch mud minnow in Hilton Head Island?
#2
I've always had the best luck dropping the trap along the bank in the shallows, just deep enough to cover the trap. Off the main water in a slew, along a grassy bank is ideal.

Fiddler crabs are tricky to catch. They usually make their home on a muddy bank that is exposed during low tide, and cover slightly at high tide. It's pretty hard to get them by yourself, but if you have a buddy, you can take turn corraling them and catch them like that. They are quick and agile. Good luck.

You can buy them cheap enough as well. Another good thing to do is get effective with a cast net. That's how I catch most of my bait. My primary live bait is Menhaden and mullet, all of which are caught with a castnet. If it's sheeps head you're after, barnacles are as good as fiddler crabs, and a whole lot easier to get. Just scrape some off docks and rocks at low tide. [:p]
