i would buy a taurus or smith,in 357 as they can shoot 38's or 357,also for home protection you need to think of penatration and simpilcity as you wake in the night to the sound of a burgalar you dont want to have to deal with is it ready to go if i need it autos jam even the great great gun makers smith and wesson and all others,a revolver is 6 to 5 for sure or you can gret them 7 and 8 shot models.a 357 loaded with magsafe,or glazers will not punch through walls and kill a inocent bystander or kids. and is good enough for swat teams is good for me.hope this helps also they make a taurus that is ported that is a great gun and doesnt kick as bad as one without it. hope this helps.
