Join Salato Educator Marc Johnson for a selection of games that are all about the senses. Senses are our “interface” with the natural world. Through them we make judgements about our surroundings. You’re likely to go into a kitchen when the smell of apple pie is in the air outside, but not when black smoke is rolling out of the windows. We’ll use our eyes, our ears and even our noses to explore the “sense-ational” world around us. Great for homeschoolers too! Registration is required.

Sign up today to be part of this year’s annual Great Backyard Bird Count. Every year, amateur bird watchers around the nation and beyond gather to identify and count songbirds to help the ornithology lab at Cornell University get a census of songbird distributions. Join Mary Carol Cooper and learn to identify bird neighbors in your backyard then record your observations around the Salato Center (from the heated comfort of the building if you wish). The results of our count will then be added to the nationwide count on the Internet. You'll also build a bird feeder to take home and keep! Reproduction has been very high as approximately 90% of the adult cows have produced calves. Currently, the population is around 3100 elk. Jenny Wiley State Resort Park is sponsoring elk tours throughout calendar year 2004. The cost includes your transportation via van to the viewing sites.
