Pacific Sailfish in Panama
#1
Panama has abundance of sport fish species, typical catches include Mahi-Mahi, Blue Marlin, Black Marlin, Cubera Snapper, Wahoo, Tuna, Mullet Snapper and Sailfish.

Sailfish is one of the unique catch and release species in Panama. In Panama Sailfish run considerably larger in size than its Costa Rican counterpart, with 90-plus-pound fish being run of the mill.
The sailfish is named for its sail-like dorsal fin and also by its long upper jaw. Worldwide it is rated as one of fastest fish in the ocean. The species is a moderate fighter however its spectacular aerial acrobatics endear the sailfish to the saltwater angler. The fish is considered a light tackle species as it tires quickly.
Fishing methods in Panama include trolling with strip baits, plures, spoons, and live bait fishing. Peak fishing in the Gulf of Chiriqui is from Dec thru May. Generally released fish average between 80 and 110 pounds. The action is found around Hannibal Banks and towards the Point of Costa Rica where sailfish can be seen feeding near the surface.

Here some photos of our Sailfish catches in the gulf of Chiriqui in Panama this year. I hope you enjoy them. If you feel like planning a Panama fishing trip one day, don't hesitate to ask for more information.
