Fishing Report: 9/06/20 to 9/13/20

Until October of this year.
Marlin
The marlin fish has been slow the last 2 weeks, a few stripers and blues and also spearfish have showed up in the last few days. They are scattered all over the place not concentrated in the areas that we usually fish this time of year.
We caught 1 blue marlin on Tuesday and 1 spearfish on Wednesday.
Tuna
Tuna fishing was very good last week, lots of fish at the Horse Shoe and some schools at San Jaime banks, most fish from 25lb to 80lbs on cedar plugs, king busters, gummies on the kite, some 150lb class on live bait. This last few days it has slowed down.
Very hard to find the schools, the town is about 15% of what it normally is, not many boats going out, lots of water to cover out there when there are lots of boats it’s a lot easier to track their movements.
Dorado
Dorado fishing has been very good, not big fish but lots of 10lb to 17lb, fish from whales head also known as Gray Rock to the Sand Dunes as far north Margarita, most fishing on lures, a few bigger fish on ballyhoo and live bait, great fun great eating.
We caught 3 dorados on Sunday, 4 on Monday, 7 on Tuesday, 3 on Wednesday and 7 on Sunday Sep 13th.
Inshore fishing
The inshore fishing has been good for dorado, skipjacks, white bonita and also few small roosters.
We caught 3 bonitas on Tuesday and 3 on Wednesday and we caught 2 skipjacks on Sunday, 2 on Monday and 4 on Tuesday.
Come on down you have the town to yourselves, some of the bars are open, most of restaurants, the beaches and water activities are open.

WEATHER: Over the next 14 days the Cabo San Lucas forecast suggests the average daytime maximum temperature will be around 34°C, with a high for the two weeks of 35°C expected on the afternoon of Thursday 24th. The mean minimum temperature will be 26°C, dipping to its lowest on the morning of Friday 18th at 24°C. The coming 14 days will have most days seeing a little rain. It looks like Saturday 19th will have the most precipitation with an accumulation of around 3.0mm. On the whole winds are likely to be light.

How to Cook Rooster Fish?
A challenging game fish, roosterfish isn’t usually considered a tasty food fish. Its distinctive dorsal fins — seven thin, long spines — rise when the fish becomes excited, giving the fish its common name. An in-shore species found in the eastern Pacific Ocean from southern California to Peru, its meat is tough and has a strong flavor. Look to the cuisine of the folks who reside on the shores near the roosterfish’s habitat for the proper ways to cook this beautiful fish.
Rooster Fish – Crispy in Chilli and Herb Sauce
Ingredients
4 tbl Honey
3 tbl Red wine vinegar
2 tbl Dark soy sauce
8 x Fresh rooster fillets
Flour for coating
Vegetable oil
3 tbl Sesame seeds
Freshly cooked pasta, to serve.
SAUCE
1 tbl Fresh mint, chopped
1 tbl Fresh basil, chopped
1 tbl Fresh coriander, chopped
2 tbl Fresh flat leaf parsley, chopped
1/2 tsp Fresh hot green chilli pepper, chopped
1 x Garlic clove
200 ml Olive oil
4 tbl Plain yoghurt
Salt
Instructions
Put the honey, vinegar and soy sauce in a small pan and boil to reduce by two-thirds. Set aside. Combine all the sauce ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Season with salt only. Preheat the grill (broiler). Dust the skin of the fish fillets with flour. Heat a film of vegetable oil in a frying pan and quickly fry the fish, on the skin side only, until golden. Transfer the fish to a metal dish or tray, placing it skin side up. Spoon the honey mixture over the skin and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Place under the grill and cook until nicely coloured. Serve 2 fillets on each warmed plate with fresh pasta. Spoon the sauce over the pasta and serve.
COCKTAIL
Spicy Grapefruit Sidecar
Ingredients
Grapefruit wedge, for rimming
2 tsp. granulated sugar
2 tsp. chili powder
Ice
2 oz. cognac
2 oz. grapefruit juice
1 oz. Cointreau
Grapefruit slice, for garnish
Instructions
1. Rim glass with a grapefruit wedge. Combine sugar and chili powder on a small plate and dip rim into mixture, turning to coat.
2. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add cognac, Cointreau, and grapefruit juice. Shake until chilled.
3. Strain into rimmed glass and garnish with a grapefruit slice.
BEWARE: Please beware of the guys in the street selling boat charters. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs. You don't want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking, your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of a fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in the next weeks fishing report.
