Hyrum Ice drive-by check
#1
We needed to make a drive into Cache Valley today so we made a drive-by Hyrum to see how its ice was holding up as we'd heard it was not machine accessible   - our informant was correct as the bottom of the ramp was pretty broke up and had only slightly refroze over. Some folks got on closer to the docks but they either got wet feet or they had used plank that they took along with them. So we drove over to swim beach - lets just say there is lot of the beach is exposed and ice once you get to edges was questionable - nothing we'd want to pull our sled over that's was for sure.... with the upcoming temps we are sure we won't be making drive up there to ice fish. But there were a couple groups that must have gotten on the ice from the other side since there were no tracks heading over there but that kind of access no longer is appealing to us.

Thanks for the drive by report Jil, Sad to say but it's looking like a lot of the lower elevation lakes will be done for the this ice fishing season, very soon.

Ya, the lake is raising and that makes the ice on the edges break up and thin.  The thing is that if you get on the main ice it is thick and solid.

Someone tried unsuccessfully to skim across onto the good ice yesterday afternoon with his sled

Pretty crazy they just left it there, hopefully they get it out before it sinks.

Looks like his buddy made it.
Must have been on an older Phazer, they were 2 strokes and didn’t weigh near as much....

They pulled it out with the truck right away, they said it took about 30 minutes of drying and it started right up

The tracks to the left went out and came right back, not sure if he tried 1 time without pulling his gear sled and then the pic is the 2nd attempt. He did comment that the sled/shelter created enough drag that he couldn’t make it

Well that's good, glad he was able to get it out right away. Thanks for sharing the pic and info.
