I too won't be using straw as a row cover as all I got nothing but grass. Even turning over the soil this spring was like turning over sod. I'll go back to using the tiller between rows. My salsify.Bok-choy, Bibb lettuce and Broccoli Rob have come up but beets are not showing. I may have planted them too deep this year. Will replant in a week. Tomatoes and peppers are doing well in the peat cubes. Seems like every time I buy plants local they never turn out what the stick says. We did plant three plum trees and three pecan trees this spring. All the blueberry and elderberry are doing well we planted last year. Hoping for a something on the fig trees as well If I can keep the squirrels away. Hope it warms up quick for you northern boys.

Sounds like you're making good progress on that garden in. Our soil is still too frozen to even split our rhubarb just yet. The daffodils are up but not yet blooming. Hoping the warm days ahead will coax them into blooming soon.
