Fliggin' Fish Porn (WITH VIDEO)
#1
Looks like it’s gonna be “weathery” for the weekend.  A lot of us are stuck in front of the TV or the computer…trying to find something to keep us from going bonkers.

Since I got my GoPro camera a while back, I have had a few requests to make some video on my FLIGS (floating jigs).  Since I don’t have a lot of video footage on fliggin’ yet, I put together a slide show from some of the hundreds of photos I have accumulated…of fish wearing fligs in their kissers.  Then I used the GoPro to video the slide show.  Didn’t turn out too bad.  And it’s at least some fish porn to occupy you for about 7 minutes.  After that, you’re on your own.

By the way, my next flig video project is on how to make your own fligs.  Already scripting it and setting up the necessary shots.

Pat, I enjoyed your video. Puzzled why the presentation ends at just under 9 minutes, but the video continues (with a black screen and no audio) for about 7 minutes longer?

There was a glitch either in my editing software or on the YouTube side.  My guess is that the problem was on my end.  At any rate, I redid it and posted the new version...and changed the link.

You dastardly purveyor of Fish Porn !! The fish police will be after you for showing the general public such awful things on the public airways. One question though, are you still using the closed cell foam rods from Waspi for your creations, or have you found a new source ???
Nice presentation Pat. By the way, your gravelly voice really sets things off !!! EXCELLENT JOB!!!

Thankee sir.  I quit buying the (expensive) foam cylinders a long time ago.  I now buy 1" or 1.5" foam kneeling pads and cut plugs from them with a power drill and punches I make from pieces of rod blank or metal tubing.  See attached picture.  This allows me to get exactly the length and diameter I want for the batch I'm working on...at only a couple of cents apiece.  That will all be illustrated and detailed in my upcoming video on Flig Making.

I knew that you would come up with an alternative to the rods. Most excellent. I want to start making some popping bugs for bluegills and green sunfish and the cost of those rods is scary. I'll give the pads a try !! Do you apply an abrasive to the ends of the rods to cut or just use pressure and the drill ???

The first plugs I cut...many long years ago...I just pushed and twisted until the punch worked through the foam.  Now I put the tube in a drill and run it over a whetstone or fine file until it is pretty sharp.  Then it cuts down through the foam like hot butter with the drill...and the sides come out super smooth.   By the way, those little foam goodies make some great poppers.  And you can modify the shape to make hoppers, crickets or beetles too.  And with a needle and some rubber filament you can add some wiggly legs.

Hold  on a bit if you can.  I am collecting pics from the past and making a whole bunch of new ones for an instructional video on Flig Making.  But here are a couple of pics to "pic" your interest.

Oh yeah, you would be welcome to visit for a personal demo.  I'd be glad to punch out some starter plugs for you to play with.  I usually keep a bunch of the different sizes I use most...and I make them in batch mode.

When you come, plan to bring some of the hooks you will be using.  Or, I gots plenty of every stuff.

Very simple to make the plugs for the poppers.  You just cut the one end off at a slight angle and then use a Dremel tool to make a small depression.

We could all stand to be more "enlightened".  But I have dropped a bit of weight this year.

Thanks Pat. I'm going to be watching for the one that shows the propeller. I want to learn them next. I've almost used my first neeling pad and ready to start the next.

Thanks for the pics Pat.
I especially liked the Willard Perch with it’s dorsal fin all the way up and perfect lighting.
But you already know I am a Perch Junkie and all strung out on the striped devils.
If you would like to trade some frog skins for a few of your favorites please let me know and I will meet up with you in the next few weeks.
Thanks, Shane

Glad you like my humble efforts.

If you gotta "get fligged", I know the guy who makes them.  He works cheap...and is worth it.  Will be glad to meet at a Covid neutral spot...or you would be welcome to visit my tackletorium.  I've had two shots and a booster.  (non-alcoholic)

I should have my video treatise on "Making Your Own" finished soon.  After that I will be making one on "Sizes, Shapes & Colors"...with species-specific recommendations.  After that will be "Baits and Rigging".  Gotta have something to keep me off the streets and out of trouble during the coming cooler months.  As you know, I don't do ice fishing anymore.

Nice job Pat! Glad your making such good use of your time off the water! Looking forward to your future videos.

Your 'emporium' is a remarkable thing to behold. And chatting about places we have both fished in our pasts was fun as well.

Thanks Pat.
You know me, I have a little ‘business’ to attend to before getting back to November Walleyes.
Thankfully the snow made it a little easier to hide today.
P.S. Not sure how the above post got deleted but it was a duplicate of this one anyway….

May the quacks be with you.  Aren't you glad you don't hunt elephants?  Carrying and setting up the decoys is murder.

I just finished tagging out on my bear hunt about three weeks ago.
Used a backpack to haul in almost 500 lbs of donuts, muffins, cake/pies, and rancid Burger King fryer grease.
Felt like elephant decoys at times…
P.S. Walleyes and Perch are easier to gut!

Looks like a good sized blackie.  How much did it weigh?

PS...your wife is better looking then either you or the bear.
