Fishing Report: 10/31/21 to 11/06/21

Marlin
Getting good off the Arch, 3 miles out, also few blue Marlin being caught from the Horse shoe to the 1150, most fish 150lb to 200lb on lures and bait, also a few sailfish around.
The striped marlin is starting to show, the water temps cool down, we caught and released 2 striped Marlin yesterday (100 lb and 120 lb) and 5 today.
Dorado
The dorado fishing slowed down this week, few caught from the Lighthouse to Los Arcos on lures and ballyhoo, few on live bait.
Tuna
The tuna fishing this year has been the worst I have ever seen in years,
177 boats went out yesterday in the Tuna Tournament and they caught only 6 tuna, 230 pound the biggest fish and the day before they caught 5 tuna, 133 pound the biggest fish, all fish 77 miles out.
Wahoo
Very few reports.
Rooster
Very few reports.
Inshore
Few small roosters this week and small grouper and triggerfish.
Come on down to Cabo! The weather is super nice, no wind and not too hot, is the mids 80’s, and all the restaurants, bars and beaches are open!

WEATHER: The forecast for Cabo San Lucas in the coming two weeks is predicting the average daytime maximum temperature will be around 31°C, with a high for the two weeks of 33°C expected on the afternoon of Tuesday 16th. The mean minimum temperature will be 21°C, dipping to its lowest on the morning of Thursday 18th at 20°C. Expect the next 14 days remain predominantly dry. On the whole winds are likely to be moderate.

Traditional Yellowtail or Tuna Teriyaki
This is a traditional recipe for yellowtail, modern teriyakis are often too sweet and, while you need the sugar to help caramelize the sauce, too much makes a dish cloyingly sweet.
INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 to 2 pounds yellowtail (or other fish steaks, as described above)
Salt to taste
4 tablespoons sake
4 tablespoons mirin (Japanese sweet wine)
4 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon sugar (heaping spoon)
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (peanut is best)
INSTRUCTIONS
1. To prepare the fish: Salt the fish steaks well and set aside at room temperature for 15 to 25 minutes.
2. To make the teriyaki sauce: In a small pot, bring the sake, mirin and soy sauce to a boil and stir in the sugar. Turn off the heat and set aside.
3. To cook the fish: Using a large saute pan, get the peanut oil almost to a smoking point over high heat.
4. Run the edge of a butter knife along the skin side of the fish steaks, scraping off any moisture.
5. Turn the heat down to medium-high and lay the fish steaks―skin side down―in the pan.
6. You might need to press down on them with a spatula to keep the skin from arching up. It'll relax in a minute or so.
7. Cook the fish 2/3 of the way on the skin side, then flip. It should come off easily, as the skin will be crispy. If you have skinless pieces of fish, just cook it 2/3 on one side.
8. Pour in the teriyaki sauce and turn the heat down to medium. Spoon some on the skin side of the steak and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, longer if the steak is very thick.
9. Flip the steak one more time to set the teriyaki glaze. Gently shake the pan so it doesn't stick. Cook for 1 minute.
10. Serve immediately with steamed rice and a salad.
SUMMER TANTALIZER
Margarita Cocktail
Served straight up or on the rocks, the margarita is one of the most popular cocktails of all time. And for good reason! It will cool you down on a hot day or warm you up on a cool day. Any day is a good day for a margarita.
INGREDIENTS
1 tablespoon kosher salt
1 1/2 fluid ounces tequila
1 fluid ounce orange flavored liqueur (such as Cointreau®)
1/2 fluid ounce lime juice
1 cup ice
1 lime wheel
DIRECTIONS
1. Sprinkle salt on a small plate. Lightly wet the rim of a cocktail glass or margarita glass with a damp paper towel. Dip the moistened rim in salt to coat. Set aside.
2. Combine tequila, orange-flavored brandy, and lime juice in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake until chilled. Strain into a salt-rimmed cocktail glass or a salt-rimmed, ice-filled margarita glass.
3. Garnish with a lime wheel.
BEWARE: Please beware of the guys in the street selling boat charters. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs. You don't want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking, your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of a fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in the next weeks fishing report.
