April & May = browns & lakers in Lake Ontario
#1
April and May are the beginning of the great trout and salmon season on Lake Ontario. I go out of Irondequoit Bay in Rochester, NY and this is prime territory for these beauties. As the shoreline starts to warm it's time to troll the shallow water for brown trout using planer boards in 5-20 ft. of water. Primary baits are stickbaits like #9 Rapalas and Thunderstick Jr's. Spoons will also take their share of BT. With the super clear water these days, the browns start to scatter as the sun gets higher in the sky. If they get hard to come by, it's time to go to the 100-140 ft. level and troll the bottom for lunker lakers. Lake Ontario has some real beauties, many in excess of 10#. We will troll very slow using the downriggers right at the bottom. Out primary lure set up is a large set of willow blades (S&S Blades) followed 27" behind by a wobbling piece of styrofoam called a "Peanut" w/hook.
I have quite a few dates still available for charter trips in April & May. Not many weekend dates but plenty of weekdays. Give me a call, and let's discuss it!
Capt.
