Laurel River Lake
#1
Saw several larger fish lying on the bottom in 20 to 30 feet of water, but they were few and far between. We were casting Silver Buddies, Rooster Tails, and some other small spinners. We didn't get any activity as far as hits. I even drifted some minnows while trolling to see if we could stir up some fish for our livewell.

We then went down and cast the rock bluffs across from the dam itself with basically the same results. There were more fish showing here on the fish finder, but still most seemed to be stacked on the bottom and not very active. We found very few fish in water that was not more than 23 feet deep.

After another hour or so with no results, we went towards the intake to set some lights out and try for some trout or crappy. We tried using corn, minnows, salmon eggs, and even some of the hatchery formula bait with no hits. The depth close to the intake ranged from close to 80 feet to 47 feet. We saw several more fish here and this time shallower than before, some even within 5 or 6 feet from the surface, but still most of the larger fish stayed on the bottom with occasional large ones roaming through about 45 to 65 feet deep. The air was quite cold with a slight breeze and the lake surface temperature on my fish finder wasshowing 69.7 degree's.

We also talked with a couple of other fishermen from Lee County who said they had not had much luck all week. They were camping this past week in the camping area at Holly Bay.
