Maxima Chameleon Test
#1
perchesed a spool of Maxima Chameleon 10 pound test and filled my spool on my open face reel. two cast later the line was all over the place. it had a tendancy to want to stay streight, unraveling itself off my reel.

I wont be throwing it away but will use it for leader lines.

this line may be usefull for bait casters Just not a good idea for open faced or spinning reels.

http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/MESS6438/
Lookie See what the kids are up to.
Dave T. Sounds like it does not have much memory at all Dave. What do they say on the packaging about it being non stretch mono, anything?

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Mod-Lures/Baits & Oz Boards
http://www.demonjigs.com

ok here it is streight of the back of the package

MAXIMA Chameleon is the premium monofilament speciallyformulated to change color. By absorbing rather than reflecting light below the water's surface. Chameleon becomes invisible, thus presinting your lure or bait most naturally.

MAXIMA Keeps'em caught.

MAXIMA Chameleon is the super-tough line created for use in hevy brush and rocks. Its superior abrasion resistance provides optimum protection from nicks and cuts while offering excellent knot strenth. Chameleon is the toughest line available for trolling or structure fishing.

Dont get me rong I really like the line it dose do what it says it dose. the line disapeers in the water and the knots I tie are unbrakeable the line wont break at my knot.

it dosant say it has no memory but from what I can tell that is it remembers to stay streight.

I do like the line and I may have to find me a bait caster of sourts to use it on other than making leaders.

I am going to make me a bunch of walleye leaders with this line and giv it a try on the detroit river where the bottom of the river is riddled with rocks. with the soft arberdein hooks that I will be using, my lure loss should drop tremendously.

http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/MESS6438/
Lookie See what the kids are up to.
Dave T. Yep it sounds like hardened line (to avoid abrasion) which means it is stiffer and therefore has a low memory in terms of returning to an original position e.g. around your spool.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Mod-Lures/Baits & Oz Boards
http://www.demonjigs.com

I always thought "low memory" = "limp" or NOT wanting to return to it's original coiliness. Whatever. We used Chameleon in the 70's and it had a rep for strength (still does). I had a foul hooked 6# bonito pull a 16' jonboat all over Redondo harbor on 8# test [shocked] It's probly changed over the years but I don't recall it's being hard to handle. Maybe you overfilled the spool? If you twist the line (line coming off wrong side of spool) while loading the spool you can have problems, too.

Fishslayer

I know what you are saying ablout the over fill and twist.
what happens is when you are not constantly holding your line tite it wants to unravel of the openface reel.

dont get me rong I do like the line, it is the aplication that I was trying to use it that failed. on another reel I think it just might be the "cats meow".

I will be using the line for two other test now that I fully understand its resilancy.

first) I will be using it for making leaders because of its stelth abilities.

second) I will be using it as a sub leader when troling. around in hard waters like the Detroit River(Rocky Bottoms and sharp Zebra mucles that can cut a mans line with out notice). (Makeing a 8' to 10' foot leader hooking a barol swivel between my main line and my leader, my 2 ounce egg sinker will slide up and down on this putting its clame to its maximum chalange - rubbing against all those mean and nastie things while constanly rubbing a gainst a Two ounce sinker)

I am thinking that this setup will give me the best of both worlds.

http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/MESS6438/
Lookie See what the kids are up to.
Dave T.
