Iowa has a special hunting season for people with disabilities. This opportunity was not open to non-residents until three seasons ago when BADF organized group hunt with Fox River Outfitters and brought the first non-resident disabled hunters into the state of Iowa. Our dear friend, the late Mickey Roy, was on the first hunt at Fox River and had a terrific time. So much, that he returned the following two years. Since this was one of Mickey's favorite events, we are changing the name of this hunt to the 2004 Mickey Roy Memorial Iowa Trophy Hunt, and will provide at least one free hunt scholarship to a worthy candidate, in Mickey's name.
This scholarship is provided by Streamlight contributions and will cover the cost of the hunt and the cost of the tag. It does not cover travel, equipment or taxidermy. If other funds become available, we will add additional scholarships. if you know of anyone who would like to contribute to this scholarship fund, please have them contact me.
To be eligible for a free scholarship you must not be able to afford a hunt of this nature on your own, and have an individual annual income of under $20,000, and be disabled to a point that meets the criteria. Details on this hunt have been sent to you in a previous email. Please read the entire previous email if you intend to apply for the scholarship. If the recipient has not applied for his tag by May 20th, the hunt will be offered to someone else. Please do not apply if you are not seriously interested.
Chosen recipient(s) will be required to provide a copy of their 2003 federal tax returns after being selected. Also, the recipient will be required to provide the $320 fro his or her tag application. If a tag is drawn BADF will reimburse your fee. If a tag is not drawn, the state will refund your money, less a small fee. If by chance the recipient does not draw a tag, the offer will not be extended for the next year. In this case we will work with the recipient of the scholarship to place them on annother event, if possible.
We will select a recipient fror the free scholarship after the deadline of May 1st, 2004. Please remember that if additional funding become available, we will provide more scholarships.
