i'm guessing you after landlocked salmon ? is that correct ? in the resrevoir ?

18 miles long with plenty of islands to cruse around . gotta watch the dam areas , some are restricted due to the 9-11 tragity .

i would first fish any stream or creek mouth area trolling with rapala's , or stillfishing with smelt (deep down ) or drifting a spawn sack 3 to 4 feet down with the streams current . with the spawn , use light line and a good quality circle hook . your rod should be of the "noodle" type .

with the ice out and spring spawning runs , the salmon will gather around these areas for a feast before returning to the deeper waters of this flooded valley .

the state record is a little over ten pounds , heavy line is not really called for , even trolling 12 pounds is the most i would use . hit those river mouths now before they head back to deeper waters , your next best shot would be in the fall .

once in the deep , trolling using cowbells , flashers . and a charlie's sparklefish lure will produce some hits ,Mega Baits holographic lures will do great as well .you will see there adds in our banners here , they come highley recomended by myself , i use them and can testify to there preformance above similar lures on the market today . i am a steelhead and salmon fisherman here in the great lakes and have used them on green lake in maine . i am more than satisfied with the quick results and big fish these lures give me , you will too .

The reservoir supports 27 species of fish, 17 of which are sought by anglers. Lake trout fishing is best during the first month of the season, declining slowly until mid September, when it improves till the end of the season. This species can be caught anywhere in April and early May, but gradually moves deeper and south as the season progresses. By mid July the only lake trout harvest occurs near the barrels on the Gate 8 side.

Landlocked salmon fishing is best in early May, declining quickly by late June. Some large individuals are taken in the fall, near stream mouths.

The next spring species is the smallmouth bass. The good fishing begins in mid May as the adults "stake out" spawning sites. Action declines quick by the end of June, when the young leave the nest. Overall, anglers catch between 35 and 50,000 smallmouths per year, with the catch being spread throughout the reservoir.

The other major fishery involves ½ to 1½ lb white perch. As the white perch move south in late June, serious anglers switch to Mepps spinners tipped with a piece of worm. Skilled anglers can harvest 50 to 100 of these large, white perch in a good day.

We did hit ice out as the ice just left last saterday. Took off at gate 8 and trolled to the yellow bouys. Trolled davedavees at 45ft with spoon, repalas at 20 ft. rough rider on top. we did mark fish about 1/2 mile up on west side in 45 ft on the bottom. Trolled through a couple of times and dropped shotted live bait to them with no success. Water temp. was 38, too cold for good action? I will go back in May and try again with those Mega bait, whats one or two more lures for the box[Wink]We'er going up to Vermont in four weeks so I'll need them for lake Dunmore and others we plan to fish. Thanks for all the info

and the top dog [#606420]MegaBait Charlie Suspending Swimbait[/#606420] in the 3" and the 3-1/2 sizes

i know it's a lot to choose from , but once you try them out you will see the difference in your fishing trips . i'de start with the google eyes , a couple of the charlies , and a couple jig spoons to see how the fish react .
