Lake sturgeon have been stocked below Douglas and Cherokee dams into the French Broad and Holston rivers. However, it is possible that these fish could be anywhere within the Tennessee River watershed, which includes Tellico, Ft. Loudoun, Watts Bar and Melton Hill reservoirs. Lake sturgeons are primitive fish and are easily identified by the sharp bony plates along the back and sides, and their long, pointed snout. If you have caught or sighted a lake sturgeon, please report it to either the TWRA office in Morristown (1-800-332-0900) or Crossville (1-800-262-6704). We would like to know where it was caught or seen and the approximate length of the fish. Lake sturgeon is listed "state endangered" in Tennessee, possession of the sturgeon is illegal and fish must be returned unharmed to the water as soon as possible. Thank you for your support and information!
