SOME HUNTSAFE COURSES LISTED ON GFP WEBSITE

PIERRE, S.D. – A partial listing of Hunter Safety and Firearms Education (HuntSAFE) courses are now available on the Game, Fish and Parks website.

"Working with our volunteer instructors and conservation officers, we now have a partial listing of HuntSAFE courses that have been scheduled for late spring and early summer," said GFP Hunting Safety Coordinator Al Bahe. "More course schedules will be added as we receive the confirmed dates from our volunteer instructors."

Towns with course information posted online are listed on the GFP site, with a hotlink leading to specific details and dates. To view the listing, visit [#0000ff]www.sdgfp.info[/#0000ff] and then hold your cursor over the "What’s New" heading. A drop-down menu will then appear, with one of them as a subheading for "HuntSAFE Courses." That will take you to the HuntSAFE web section.

Bahe added that the site also includes general information about the history, funding and purposes of the HuntSAFE program. A question-and-answer section also has details addressing some of the more common questions about the HuntSAFE courses.

Courses are taught by local volunteer instructors in coordination with the local conservation officers. If you would like to learn more about becoming an instructor in your area, contact your local conservation officer or call the HuntSAFE program office in Pierre at 773-3485.

Most of South Dakota’s HuntSAFE courses are offered during late summer and early fall. Some communities also offer courses during the late winter and early spring months. HuntSAFE courses are open to anyone who is at least 12-years old, or will turn 12-years old by the end of the year.
