NONRESIDENT WATERFOWL LICENSE PROPOSAL

NONRESIDENT WATERFOWL LICENSE PROPOSAL

PIERRE, S.D. – A recent Game, Fish and Parks Commission proposal regarding nonresident waterfowl licenses would transfer 50 of the 100B licenses to unit 100A and have an earlier date that nonresidents can purchase additional licenses.

Under this action, 50 of the 3,775 main-unit (100B) nonresident waterfowl licenses would be transferred to the southeast unit (100A). "Currently, 200 licenses are available in the southeast unit," said Assistant Wildlife Director George Vandel. "Proponents of Springfield, S.D., are seeking an increase in the number of season-long, nonresident licenses available in their unit, as they feel the additional hunters would be beneficial to local businesses."

Another part of the proposal would allow nonresidents to purchase additional nonresident waterfowl licenses that are leftover after Oct. 31. "This is a modification to the current rule that has Nov. 30 as the beginning date that nonresidents can purchase unlimited additional leftover waterfowl licenses," Vandel said. "Every year a number of the 3-day, private-land-only licenses available in certain counties along the Missouri River in central South Dakota have remained unsold. This would allow nonresidents the option of purchasing additional leftover licenses beginning on Nov. 1 of each year."

To comment on the proposals, people can attend the public hearing at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 6 at the Sylvan Lake Resort in Custer State Park, or write Game, Fish and Parks, 523 E. Capitol, Pierre, S.D. 57501. E-mail comments can be sent to [#0000ff]wildinfo@state.sd.us[/#0000ff]. Comments must include full name and address.
