MUZZLELOADING DEER SEASON SET

PIERRE, S.D. -- Muzzleloader-only deer hunters will have a few less licenses available to hunt this year’s Dec. 11 through Jan. 31 muzzleloader-only season.

Muzzleloader deer licenses have slightly decreased from last year’s 3,385 one-tag licenses and 1,185 two-tag licenses to this year’s 3,315 one–tag licenses and 1,180 two-tag licenses," according to Game, Fish and Parks Regional Wildlife Manager Will Morlock of Watertown. "The reduction in tags will occur in those units where the tags have consistently not been sold," he noted,[#0000ff] [/#0000ff]"so, we do not expect this reduction will have any effect on a muzzleloader hunters ability to obtain a license."

Another change from last year has divided unit 27B (Fall River County) into units 27B and 27C, which have the same descriptions as in the West River deer season.

Muzzleloader applications will be available in May. The first application deadline is June 4 for paper applications. Online applicants will have up to midnight on Monday, June 7, to apply online at [#0000ff]www.sdgfp.info[/#0000ff]. Online applications will be accepted for the first three drawings. Up to five muzzleloader-only licenses will be allowed per person. Residents may apply and receive only one license in the first two drawings. Nonresidents may apply for leftover muzzleloader deer licenses beginning with the third drawing.
