Fishing report 4-29-04
#1
Center Hill: Lake had reached 67 degrees in places before the rains hit. Fishing had been good but now water, water everywhere! Bass had been caught on crankbaits and spinnerbaits around willow bushes. Crappie are active.

Cheatham: High water and all colors of water along with plenty of trash has slowed fishing tremendously. Bass action was improving on spinnerbaits and crank-baits prior to the storms. Lake is 59 degrees.

Cordell Hull: Bluegill are moving shallow where water has cleared. Crappie are fair with most being caught on minnows around fallen trees. Bass are slow with best results coming from spinnerbaits or small crankbaits. Lake is 63 degrees.

Dale Hollow: Despite bad weather fishing remains good. Smallmouth continue to take Charlie Brewer's Slider in water 8-10 feet deep but action is spaced out. Floating worms in the creeks have produced the better largemouth. Crappie good using minnows up river. Lake is 67 degrees.

Kentucky: Largemouth bass taking small crankbaits, Rat-L-Traps, Rapala Shad Raps and spinnerbaits off the main channel and around points and in the creeks. Crappie anywhere from 6 feet deep to 15 feet and in spawning areas. A bit of good news is that bluegill have moved shallow. Lake was 61 degrees this week.

Normandy: Crappie had the spotlight prior to heavy rains and could again before the weekend closes out. Minnows or jigs, fished around brush or stumps, paying best dividends. Bass are slow with spawning taking its toll on the anglers.

Old Hickory: When the big rains come catfishing is at its best and that's what has been the key the last few days. Chicken livers, nightcrawlers or stink baits have produced best. Bass fishing had been good but dingy to muddy water and high levels changed that. Rat-L-Traps, crankbaits and spinnerbaits should be working by the weekend. Lake is 62 degrees.

Percy Priest: Crappie fishing has been fair, especially in shallows around brush. Minnows have produced. Bass are so-so but could improve as water settles out. Lake is 63 degrees.

Tims Ford: Bass fishing has slowed not only because of heavy weather but spawning time. Best action continues to be smallmouth bass but it is sluggish. Carolina rigs or spinnerbaits in brush works best. Crappie good to excellent.

Woods: Take a Carolina-rigged lizard if you're looking for bass, a bucket of minnows or small jigs if you're craving crappie action.
