another broken record
#1
a man in kansas today pulled in a 144 pound paddle fish. he got it near shore and had to jump in the lake to grab it. He didnt have a net big enough to net the fish with. all in all some 35 minutes was all he needed to land this new state record.

Wow! And he even hooked it in the mouth. Most of those big paddlefish are caught snagging. Here's the story: http://www.wibw.com/home/headlines/761042.html

thanks for finding the story,

All I had was a local news account.. they did show the news reel of the fish fresh out of the freezer.

I guess we are still on the hunt for a picture of the paddle fish.

seeing the record was broken by 50 pounds it gives wonder as to how long they live and just how big to they realy get.

Hey Dave-

I haven't been able to find a picture of this record fish, but I did come across a really good article on paddlefish that addresses some of your questions like lifespan (30+ years) and maximum size (maybe as much as 200 lbs.). It's a good read. Here's the link: http://www.nativefish.org/Articles/Pre_Paddlefish.htm

If I find a pic I'll post it.

truly a fastinating read...

an artical worthy of posting on the conservation board... I did not know they were older than the dinosaur.

I find it hard to belive that them nasty taisting black eggs would put a fish on the threatened list...
