Sooke - Vancouver Island -
#1
FISHING: Good
Salmon fishing was GOOD this past week. Most boats returned with a spring or two weighing up to twenty pounds. The Sooke Bluffs was again the best area to fish this past week, but anglers are also reporting success near Secretary (Donaldson) Island. Most anglers are fishing in the 50 to 80 foot depths. Anglers were getting salmon on a wide variety of gear, however large anchovies were the most productive. The Rhys Davis Anchovy Special in Glow Green patterns has been the most useful teaser heads. If you want to troll hootchies, White or Green and White remain the best colors. Spoons were also working well, especially those with Glow /Green. Some we would recommend are the #4 Coyotes, #4 Titans or #5 Gibbs Gators in Glow /Green, Silver/Green or Black/Glow. Halibut fishing was fairly good out to the west, to say the least. Two whoppers of 164 lbs and 144 lbs were weighed in from out near Jordan River! Maybe they should have saved them for this coming weekend’s 8th Annual Just for the Halibut Derby!
