Pedder Bay - Vancouver Island
#1

FISHING: Fair
The fishing was QUIET for salmon and halibut, mainly due to the big tides. However, a 23 lb spring was taken inside the bay yesterday, and a 22 lb spring was caught near Bentick Island. Anchovy still is accounting for most of the salmon taken. Green or Glow Green have been the most productive teaser head colors. If you want to troll spoons, try #4 Coyotes, #4 Titans or #5 Gibbs Gators in Glow White/Green, Green/Silver or Black/Glow. Good squirts/hootchies to use were the Purple Haze, Mint Tulip, Army Truck, and Jellyfish. HALIBUT – Halibut fishing was TOUGHER this past week due to big tides. A brace of halibut were taken by one boat yesterday though. They weighed 55 and 35 lbs. This area could produce a big one for this coming weekend’s 8th Annual Just for the Halibut Derby. The 11-Fathom Reef and the 27-Fathom Reef are best on the flood tides and the West Race are best on the ebb tides. Extra Large Herring and Octopus fished off of a spreader bar with a 2 lb weight was the most successful combination to catch the big flatfish. Some anglers have been doing well on Powerbait or jigs such as the Mudraker or Lucky Jig.
