FISHING: Fair
Stream Flow Information [[#0000ff]click here[/#0000ff]]

The big news in our fishing report is that the Yellowstone "officially" went into runoff on Tuesday of this week. Barring a serious cold snap in the high country, the Yellowstone will be high and off-color for several weeks.

During the runoff period, our fishing will center around the spring creeks and the local private lakes and ponds."

As we predicted in the fishing report a few days ago, the clear water conditions that prevailed last weekend deteriorated this week when the weather warmed back up. We enjoyed good to excellent fishing last weekend, but the river started to come up quickly on Monday, and by Tuesday, it was no longer fishable.

Flows are now up over 6000 cfs, and unless we would get an extended period of cold weather, it is unlikely that the river will clear again until the end of runoff.

Although our snowpack was in good shape at the beginning of March, a lack of moisture and very warm temperatures depleted our snowpack rapidly very early in the spring. It is shaping up to be another low water year, so anglers should anticipate that the Yellowstone will clear at least or week or two earlier than normal. Of course, if we start to see significant rainfall (and May and June can be wet months in our area), that could change quickly. Be sure to stay in touch with us for updates on runoff and water conditions.
