The Unsinkable Legend Tour 2004

Half a Whaler coming to a tour stop near you.

In 1961 Richard Fisher sat calmly in a Boston Whaler as it was sawed in half. Then Whaler’s founder drove off in the half with the engine and The Unsinkable Legend was born.

Since that time, Whalers have floated through all kinds of abuse and adversity. There are hundreds of stories from around the world providing dramatic testimony to Whaler’s unsinkable Unibond™ construction. But our favorite is still the original: cutting a Whaler in half and driving off in the part with the engine.

Last year we sliced a brand-new, factory-stock 180 Dauntless in half. Then we put both halves on a customized E-Z Loader trailer and towed it up the Atlantic seaboard to stops from Florida to Boston. There were visits to special events, stops at Whaler dealerships and dozens of in-water demonstrations along the way. You may have seen it on the Fox & Friends morning show on FoxNews.

We had so much fun last year, we’re doing it again. But this time we’re going right up the middle of the country.

At each stop you can get an up-close-and-personal look at the two Whaler halves on the trailer, or watch it as it is put through its paces on the water. Experienced boaters and Whaler owners Maria and Dave Russell are at the helm again. (While they’re on the water they wear state-of-the-art inflatable Mustang® Survival life jackets.)

Except for the little matter of the cut bisecting the Whaler, the Russells have a dream rig: a Ford Super Duty F-250 King Ranch Edition crew cab with a 5.4 liter EFI V-8, quad leather captain’s chairs and CD player. They’re hauling a custom EZ Loader trailer with a special cradle for the severed bow section. A fuel-efficient Mercury Marine 135-HP OptiMax® on the business end of the stern section insures superior performance and maximum fuel efficiency.

Whaler’s second Unsinkable Legend Tour is going to crisscross the Florida panhandle, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky from February through October.

You have to see it for yourself. For a list of the calendar of stops, click here to check out where and when The Unsinkable Legend Tour will be near you. Don’t miss it. Because it would be a shame to cut a Whaler in half in vain.
