nice gar dave !

hey last year the local news had a story about one . it was about 7 inches long and washed up on shore of one of the big lakes , local residents had never seen one . they had a dnr biologist come in to identify it .

yep , common long nose gar !

your gar will be top dog in the 16 species freshwater division for sure ! howed you get him in without it snapping your line ? those things sure like to roll over a lot when you've got them hooked .

the roll over was his down fall.

he rapped the line around his jaws so he could not get the chance to cut the line...

man you want to talk about needle nose. those teet are sharp as a needle and about as thick, I am glad I did not have the pup in the boat with me....

there are only two places that i know of where a person could go to have a very good chance at hooking into one of these gars . one is the backwaters at flatrock , the average size is around 24" . the second is in lake erie out behind the cole power plant in monroe . the average size is 3 to 5+ feet in length .
truley these fish are an underappreaciated adversary in the fishing world . it takes a lot of patience , skill and knowhow combined with a bit of good fortune to land one of these fish with a rod and reel . even those of us that bowfish concider this fish to be a prised specimine worthey of bragging about .
good job dave , that patch will make an excelent addition to your collection .

my patch for the big sucker came in today, I am currently standing in first place this year for the biggest white sucker. I knew it was a wopper when I hooked in to him...

he broke several lines and slipped off the hook a dozen times before I finnaly got a good hook in him. what is realy funny is I et 4 master angler White suckers before I realized I was eating master angler fish....[sly] I have to remember to put place a laminated section of that book in my tackle box for future refferance...

I will scan it and edit it in tonight so you can see what this years modle catch and keep patch looks like...

Well I gotted bumped [pirate]

I have respectivly been knocked in to second place status for the michigan White Sucker for 2004. By less than a Quarter of an ounce. I knew I should have hung around for that big female full of eggs....

the one that bumbed me was caught a week earlier and was a Quarter inch shorter in lenth than mine.....

so I guess I will have to stick my tail back under my leggs till I get me another first place wopper!!!!!!!!

ye-ouch ! so close to first place !
the closest i have come to the state record this year is the walleye that could eat a football and muskey that thought that 22" pike was a light snack .
all i got to do was see them swim away .

so how are you laminating your fishing booklet ?

the funny thing is if I had just taken a picture of it an let it go I would still be in first place...
