PIERRE, S.D. – Recent finalizations by the state Game, Fish and Parks Commission has transferred 50 of the unit 100B licenses to unit 100A. Nonresidents also have an earlier date that they can purchase additional licenses.

"Under this final action, 50 of the 3,775 main-unit (100B) nonresident waterfowl licenses have been transferred to the southeast unit (100A)," said Assistant Wildlife Director George Vandel. "This brings the total 100A licenses available to 250."

The idea was introduced by proponents of Springfield, S.D., who wanted to increase in the number of season-long, nonresident licenses available in their unit, as they felt the additional hunters would be beneficial to local businesses.

Another change now allows nonresidents to purchase additional nonresident waterfowl licenses that are leftover after Oct. 31.

"This is a modification from the former rule that had Nov. 30 as the beginning date that nonresidents could purchase unlimited additional leftover waterfowl licenses," Vandel said. "This was changed to address the high number of 3-day, private-land-only licenses (100X) that have remained unsold for the past three years."

Nonresident waterfowl applications will soon be available. The first paper application deadline is Friday, June 18. Online applicants will have up to midnight on Monday, June 21, to submit their applications electronically.
