[size 2]PIERRE, S.D. – Nature observation will take center stage Memorial Day weekend at South Dakota state parks. In addition to regular programming hosted by individual parks, several educational Walk-in-the-Park programs will be held.[/size]

[size 2]In addition to the Walk in the Park programs, Lake Poinsett Recreation Area near Arlington will be hosting a Kids’ Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 29. Contact the park office at (605) 627-5441 for more information.[/size]

[size 2]The Walk-in-the-Park programs are a series of educational, guided hikes held throughout the year in South Dakota state parks, recreation areas and nature preserves. Park staff and volunteers lead the programs, which are co-sponsored by the S.D. Department of Health. There is no cost to participate in the programs, though a park entrance license is required.[/size]

[size 2]In addition to programming and events, South Dakota state parks offer a wide variety of outdoor fun, including camping, picnicking and boating. Many parks also offer trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding.[/size]
