Pine Lake Park construction completed;
#1
OLYMPIA - Completion of a major construction project that blocked angler access to Pine Lake in eastern King County has cleared the way for the fishing season there to get under way May 29.

The City of Sammamish's construction project at Pine Lake Park blocked the only public access to the lake, and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) opted to close the lake to all fishing. The lake typically opens to fishing on the fourth Saturday in April as part of the western Washington lowland lakes opener.

Plans to stock the lake with trout were also put on hold until public access was restored, said WDFW district fish biologist Larry Tsunoda.

"We will stock Pine Lake with approximately 14,000 rainbow trout in the days leading up to the May 29 opener," Tsunoda said. "Fishing on the lake should be good well into summer."

Anglers 15 years of age and older must have a valid, current Washington fishing license to fish Pine Lake. Check the WDFW 2004-2005 "[#0000ff]Fishing in Washington[/#0000ff]" rules pamphlet or the [#0000ff]Fishing Section[/#0000ff] of the WDFW webpage on the Internet for details on fishing seasons, daily bag limits, and other regulations in effect.

A new City of Sammamish regulation prohibiting the use of internal combustion engines on the lake will be in effect when the lake opens to public fishing. For additional information regarding boat/boater rules and park facilities, contact the City of Sammamish at (425) 246-2585.
