ssor sponcers fishing derby in Michigan
#1
To day we had our first-H fishing derby in Oakland County of the year,

This was a closed event for handy caped/educationally challenged children and their families.

It was cold but dry and sunny. Only one fish was caught for the day, it was 8 and 1/2inch Warmouth Bass caught by a 13 year old girl..

They had a great time with shirt painting and casting contest and fishing.

I spent most of my time fixing broken reels and setups.

I want to give Dwight (ssor) a special thanks for the best gift of all, he and his mom drove over 300 miles (one way) over night to join us at this event to personally donate and deliver a new computer for a grand door prize. God Bless You and your Mom

If there were an award for going that extra mile, ssor you'd be gettin about 600 of em about now.

left to right...
Chris..... Dave,
First of all I would like to thank you and all for a day of memories and happy tears that will never be forgoten. It was a great experionce for all that attended. As the day went on the wind slowed and the bright sun helped all feal great. I truly enjoyed the chance to talk with and get to know the kids. It was hard for me to keep up with all the events but the kids had a great time and that is what counts.
You do have one error in your post on the count of fish caught. Just before I got my camera packed away for the trip home there was a second fish caught and I did catch an image on my camera. Will post pic's of both to this thred after I get them downloaded.
Meeting you in person was a true joy. I hope it will happen again soon. Your precision work on the geer for the kids is to be admired as you kept up with the steady flow of tangled lines and reel jams and an ocasional broken gear.
Every one that was involved with this event is truly a winner of memorys and a learning experionce.
I developed friendships and memorys that will be with me for a lifetime and for that I thankyou.[Smile]

Texas Gulf Coast Fisher <*(())))))))))>{
http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/ROSS6959/

Dave, I've gotten to know ssor pretty well. He may have done well for the kids but yu should know that you did a lot for him also. His self-esteem has been pretty low since his injury and strokes a few years back. You added a lot to his ego, and every one down here in Southern Ohio thanks you.

SHAKA,
I am not the one to recieve all the recognition. The praise needs to be given to all the kids involved, as this event was for them not for the sponcers. All I did was add a little something to help reduce the strugle that is everyday life for a child that has a need. I wish that I had the resorces to have been able to do this for all the Children!
Whenever the ocasion arises and I have the resorces for this Type of event, I will do it again.[Smile]

Texas Gulf Coast Fisher <*(())))))))))>{
http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/ROSS6959/

Now that day was something to write home to Mom about, if she wasn't joining in.
On a side note, and not to take anything away from Dwight's day, but it is activities like this that puts PETA in the backyard. Would they be brazen and callous enough to say that these kids shouldn't enjoy themselves? PETA has had the brass testicles to picket such events on the platform that it hurts the fish and teaches the kids that it okay to kill and injure. I, with an opinion of one, would like to see each PETA member taken out back to the outhouse (one used for many years by a very large family) and dumped headfirst into it. I'm all for conservation but when it comes to these kids, a little tolerance is due.
I have watched PETA members disrupt a fishing event in California, on the Santa Cruz Pier, for diSadvantaged kids. I voted for chumming for sharks with them but the SC Police reluctantly denied the request from the event sponsors. They deemed it too cruel to the sharks. To make a long story short, because they were short on fishing equipment, I volunteered two of my rigs and a tackle box, which was empty by days end but worth it. I ask for no recognition for this, it was something that needed to be done. The looks on their faces when they reeled in a fish is PRICELESS. I know how you feel Dwight and just wish I had been there to help.
PS. The PETA members were arrested for disrupting a authorized sporting event.

johnincolorado thanks for the note.

PETA did show up but did not dare to even put up a front.lol
they are not welcome in the park we were in "in an oficial copasidy" they were arested there years ago and found that they wont be tolerated in Kesing metro park in that way. lol kenington metro park has their own police department.

Sounds to me you have your heart in the right place as well. it is good to know that there are people out there like you who care enough about the planet we live on to teach our children about the food chain and how the environment is involved in the food that is on our table.

this is my favorite type of event, I have two more scedualed for the year, hopfuly one for next winter (ice be willing).

http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/MESS6438/
Lookie See what the kids are up to.
Dave T. Windy
thanks for the kind words.
but realy the credit is all his, he has followed his heart and found a great path to walk on. I am only a steping stone at the begining of the path. it takes a great amount of courage and fortitude, not to mention a strong beleif that they can do good in this world to walk that path.
It is I who have had the privilage of his crossing my path.

http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/MESS6438/
Lookie See what the kids are up to.
Dave T. PETA hates adverse publicity, and I stick it to them every chance I get. That's one of the benefits of being a writer, now that I've quit twisting wires. I can pick and chose my subjects. Yes, they have infiltrated our schools and use their position of authority to teach their twisted brand of conservation to our children (mine are all grown). I've even seen them campaign to remove aquariums in offices, schools and business because to them, it is a form of captivity. They must have cheered at the movie FREE WILLY.
Colorado has a anti-harrassement law to insure trouble-free hunts and fishing. PETA was known to roam the forests, during hunting season, on ATVs or drive the fire roads with loud music blaring. On the water, they would drive boats closr to other fishing boats, trying to disrupt the relaxing activity. On the water, I'd opt for a mini-torpedo (like James Bond) and sink their boat. Unfortunately, that's illegal. During a hunt, they should be considered nuisance and removed from the gene pool for the betterment of mankind. I'm sure there are one or two on this board keeping track of what is going on, they are sneaky that way.
Okay, enough about PETA, the subject is ruining my breakfast. I'm going fishing. Back later.
