[size 2]PIERRE, S.D. -- New shooting preserve applications were recently proposed by the Game, Fish, and Parks Commission. Applications will be considered for approval following a public hearing at 2 p.m., June 3, in Ft. Pierre.[/size]

[size 2]Program Assistant Steve Thompson said nine new and one renewal application are within one mile of a public hunting area, and the remaining 44 applications are more than one mile from a public hunting area. [/size]

[size 2]"If all applications are approved, and no further changes are made for existing permits, a total of 234 shooting preserves will be licensed in South Dakota for the 2004-05 season," Thompson said. "For the 2003-04 season, there were a total of 202 licensed shooting preserves. He added that 192 of the existing preserves requested permit renewal for the 2004-05 preserve season.[/size]

[size 2]Persons wishing to comment on these license applications can attend the public hearing at 2 p.m., June 3, at the Holiday Inn Express in Ft. Pierre. Written comments can be sent to Game, Fish, and Parks, 523 E. Capitol, Pierre, S.D. 57501. Comments may also be submitted by e-mail to wildinfo@state.sd.us. E-mail comments must include the person’s name and address to be included as part of the official record.[/size]
