INSHORE (state waters):

Cherry Grove: Flounder fishing is excellent. They are biting live mud minnows in the creeks. Several cobia have been reported in 50 to 60 foot waters over inshore live bottoms. Use live bait or whole blue crabs to target cobia. Spadefish are biting jelly balls at nearshore reefs and structures. Red drum, spotted sea trout and whiting are beginning to bite live shrimp and mud minnows.

Murrells Inlet: Sheepshead are biting jelly balls at the jetties, but you can also use fiddler crabs. Whiting are biting shrimp and cut bait in the surf. Flounder fishing is outstanding using mud minnows, and spotted sea trout, using shrimp, are being caught in the inlets. Several king mackerel are being caught as well.

Charleston Area: Red drum are in the surf, harbor and jetties. Very large fish have been reported at Dynamite Hole and the Grillage, behind Fort Moultrie. Use live shrimp or mud minnows. Sheepshead are biting very well at the jetties on fiddler crabs. Spotted sea trout activity has picked up a little with several nice trout landed in the Wando and upper Cooper rivers. Flounder can be found in the creeks. Look for sandy bottom areas with structures. Use live mud minnows. Blues are starting to show up.

Edisto River/St. Helena Sound: Many red rum are being caught over oyster beds using live shrimp. Nice size spotted sea trout and whiting have been reported in the creeks. Some nice ones in the two-pound range have been reported. Use shrimp or cut bait such as mullet. Several cobia have been caught in the 25-35 pound range.

Beaufort Area: Cobia action in Broad River is tremendous. A pending state record breaker of 86 and a half pounds was landed using a live eel. Whole squid also works well for cobia. Cast to tailing cobia on the surface when waters are calm, and search for cobia around the Highway 170 Bridge. Flounder are biting live finger mullet at all ocean inlets.
