#1
Capt. Ralph Leyrer, Last Lady Fishing Charters, Neptune, said the Paul Carpinella party, Lansdowne, Pa., limited out on large striped bass and were releasing 40-inch fish by 10 a.m. The action was on bunkers and ultralight tackle.

Danny Lesko and party, Elmwood Park, fished with Leyrer on another trip, and had a good catch of sea bass to 4 pounds with some blackfish and cod mixed in. The Last Lady II sails open boat at 7 a.m. every Wednesday. Reservations are required.

Capt. John Larsen, Deep Adventures V, Wildwood, sailed with the Ed Pajunas party, Wildwood, and they had a good catch of sea bass on the 75- to 80-foot wrecks.

Capt. Ed Skwara, Hello Dolly, Southside Marina, Point Pleasant Beach, fished for stripers with a party made up of Joe Licari and Joe Danson, both from Hamilton, and Bob Kieles, Richmond, Va., and they landed a 34-pound bass on clams, and lost a bigger one at the boat.

Hello Dolly's Saturday trip with Chris Brady, West Paterson; Nick Salvatore, Wayne; Marty Zysling, Blairstown, and Bob Harris, Stanhope, produced five bass between 25 and 31 pounds. The action was on spoons north of Asbury Park.

Rough seas failed to dampen the spirits of tournament anglers, and the Shark River Surf Anglers won the weekend's inter-club tournament with 648 pounds of fish.

The Asbury Park Fishing Club placed second with 272, the Spring Lake Live Liner Fishing Club was third with 257, and the Bradley Beach Fishing Club was fourth with 115. The Berkeley Striper Club was fifth with 26 pounds, and the Surf City Anglers and Monmouth Beach Cartoppers failed to score.

Adam Pharo of the Spring Lake club had the largest bass -- a 31-pounder -- and Don Warren of the Asbury Park club had a 29 1/4-pound bass.

Bob Kamienski, Middletown, brought his Kingfisher III back with a 38.3-pound striped bass to win the Hi-Mar Spring Striped Bass Fishing Tournament Saturday.

Steve Pagidas caught the fish on a live bunker at 6 a.m. on a rock pile off Long Branch. The team, which included Brandon Kamienski, had three big fish on at once followed by another hook-up of three before the bite ended.

The second-place fish was a 37.8-pounder caught by Craig Delendik on Phil Lidlow's, Middletown, Dusky. It was caught on a live bunker on the Shrewsbury Rocks.

Third place went to Tom Morford, Middletown, Atlantic Yacht Sales, who docked with a 37.5-pound bass caught by Al Ristori. The fish was caught at 11 a.m. on a bunker spoon while trolling the Shrewsbury Rocks.

The tournament was held to benefit Jason's Dreams for Kids. The fish that were caught yielded 400 pounds of fillets that were donated to the Monmouth-Ocean Food Bank.

Ron Bala of Fishermen's Supply, Point Pleasant Beach, said Capt. Frank Rose, skipper of the charter boat Miss Diane, fished an offshore wreck, and his party brought back 88 sea bass to 3 pounds, and released an estimated 150.
