REPORTS: The upper river near Darby is down about 160 cfs compared to this time yesterday while the lower river near Florence is down about 830 cfs in the same time period. The main issue with The Bitterroot right now is the volume of water. Clarity is actually pretty good, but finding soft, fishable water is tough with the flows as high as they are. As the water continues to drop throughout the week, expect better and better fishing. The West Fork has been giving up some very good topwater action lately and the main river should follow suit shortly. There are lots of bugs out and about including caddis, green drakes, salmonflies and golden stones.

HATCHES: Midges, caddis, yellow sallies, giant goldens, a few salmonflies, green drakes.

FLIES: Extended body drakes in a 10 or 12, parachute adams in both larger sizes for the drakes and march browns and in smaller sizes for baetis. Have some Goddard and elk hair caddis and some salmonflies if you go higer. Keep some smaller green and red bodied nymphs such as brassies if the fish won't play on top.
