6/12 Party Boat Captains Report
#1
Capt. Ron Santee Jr., Fishermen, Atlantic Highlands, said the striper fishery already is beginning to change in his area.

"We're getting shots of bass for an hour or so," he said. "We're fishing between the channels. (Thursday) was the best bite in a long time, and Wednesday was good for about 45 minutes."

Ken Stork of Colts Neck had two bass -- one measuring 28 inches and the other 31. There were very few slot fish in the catch.

Capt. Scott Hilliard, Prowler 5, Atlantic Highlands, said he had good striper fishing at night on the grounds off Sandy Hook, and Bo Gebhardt of East Rutherford won the pool with a fish in the 20-pound class.

Capt. Al Hilliard, day skipper of the Prowler 5, reported Thursday's fluke fishing was the best in several days with 27 keepers coming over the rails before 11:30 a.m. He has been averaging 30 to 50 keepers a trip.

Capt. Chris Hueth, Big Mohawk, Belmar, was pleased with the improvement in the fluke fishing north of Asbury Park. He caught 11 keeper fluke himself Thursday, and several anglers had the limit.

Capt. Marc Vitolo, Skipper, Belmar, said he had improved fluke fishing with some limits, and others with four and five fish. Robert Toth of Johnstown, Pa., won the pool with a 6 1/4-pound fluke.

George Bucko of Crystal Marine, Point Pleasant, said his customers are catching some nice stripers off Bay Head, Mantoloking and Point Pleasant Beach.

Joe Punk, Point Pleasant, and Jim Smith, Manasquan, topped their catch with a 30-pound bass caught on clams. They also had six fluke.
