Yakima River - June 14th, 2004
supplied by: [#0000ff]The Evening Hatch[/#0000ff]
RECORDED: [Image: mscloudy.gif] 65 ° [Image: blackSpacer.gif] FISHING: Good

The overall weather lately has been fishlike. The valley has experienced a substantial amount of rainfall and clouds over the last two weeks. The fishing has been great and the catching has been average to great depending on the day and the stretch of river fished. The Lower Canyon fishing has been decent, but nothing spectacular. The farmlands have fished about the same. The Upper Canyon has turned on a bit in comparison to the past month. The Upper Flatlands has been spotty but good and the Upper Proper certainly worthy. The bug activity throughout the system has been prolific at times recently with PMD's, Large Yellow Mays, Yellow Sallies, Golden Stones, Drakes, Craneflies, Caddis, Tan Mayflies and a variety of Terrestrials present. The river is an GREAT condition. Flows continue to be unseasonably low. In speaking with The Bureau of Reclamation, lately their game plan has been to ride out as much of this natural moisture as possible. Our air temps lately have been rather warm and the amount of precipitation while nothing like the west side has been significant. Most of the moisture lately has been coming by way of rain showers and as an overall rule has not been sustained for any amount of time....Perfect Mayfly (Big Yellow Mays, PMD's, Drakes) weather and has also instigated some good Cranefly activity. Summer Stones are not to far away and their distant cousin the Golden Stone has been quite important over the last few weeks. Combine the aforementioned insects with Caddis and you have quite the selection! Nymphing has been a goto technique in the Lower Canyon and Farmlands lately. on the water daily, fish-on

All Star Fishing Charters weekly fishing report

Area 9

Salmon fishing in area 9 opens July 16

Crabbing in area 9 is open 7 days per week.

Area 8.2

King Salmon fishing arrives

Tulalip Special area fishery opens for king salmon fishing on Friday June 18.

6000 plus kings returning to tulalip hatchery and a few strays from the Snohomish river and you have a legitimate local king fishery.

The area is defined as an area 2000 feet from shore between the old Bowers resort pilings and the marker located on the shore 1.4 miles north of Hermosa Point.

Season open Friday through Monday noon each week through September.

Jigging or trolling? Which method you use depends on your personal preference and expertise. Both catch fish.

Trolling

Coyote flashers rigged with Squid of coyote Spoons has been the most productive. Hook this up to your downrigger and lower it down to where the fish are.

How do you know where the fish are? This is where a good Quality fish finder can be invaluable. Spot the fish on your fish finder and place your gear right there. Most of the trolling is done in 60 plus feet of water and down from 40 to 90 feet.

Jigging.

Point Wilson darts in Green/white, plain white or candlefish in the 2 ½ to 4-ounce sizes are the most popular.

Use only enough jig to keep your gear as close to vertical as possible. Jigs are designed to work the best on the drop so be prepared to set the hook if your jig suddenly stops falling.

Most jigging is done close to shore in shallow water 10 to 60 feet.

Crabbing in area 8.2 remains fair to good.

The jetty just out of the Snohomish river mouth is probably the most popular and certainly very productive.

Other good spots include the shoreline from Everett to Mukilteo.

The south and north ends of Hat Island.

Area 8.1

Open for lingcod

Crabbing opens Friday June 4

North end of Camano Island is excellent.

Closed to salmon fishing, Reopens on August 1

Area 10

Salmon fishing open

A very enjoyable Catch and release fishery opens in area 10 on June 15 and continues through all of June. The area open for this special fishery is the waters of area 10 north of a line from Meadow Point to Point Monroe. Although this is a catch and release fishery where no fish can be brought inside the gunnels. This is an excellent opportunity to tangle with a king salmon and enjoy the fight while releasing the fish to continue on his journey to spawn.

Best spots have been Jefferson Head or Kingston area.

Trolling with Coyote Flashers and spoons works great.

Look for the baitfish with a quality fish finder and keep your gear near that bait as these fish are still feeding.

Open for crabbing 7 days per week.

Skagit River - June 14th, 2004

[#0000ff]water levels - click here[/#0000ff]

Fishing Conditions: The weather has been all over the board. Many storm cells, snow levels have actually dropped. Water temps in the Skagit on Thursday and Skykomish on Saturday were both hovering around 50 degrees. Water has been down and in. Fish are around.

Skagit River: 5210 cfs. On a slight rise as we speak. Water very fishable from Rockport up, but total yuck below the Sauk confluence. Summer steelhead is spotty. Nice upstream Dollies on the move as are the hatchery Chinooks. Anglers should be releasing everything. Most guys are throwing hardware or flyfishing sinktips. Big marabous in blacks, blue, red\orange are the most popular. Mike fishes both surface and subsurface, my drill is pretty much on top.

supplied by: [#0000ff]Dickson Flyfishing Steelhead Guides[/#0000ff]
FISHING: Good
Skykomish River: 4,470 cfs. Mike's guiding has been primarily on the Sky. His trips have produced both steelhead and Chinook. He says he would rate the upper Sky (below High bridge to Sultan) as fair to good for steelhead, and Sultan down the Monroe fair for steelhead but good for Chinook. Sinktips and winter flies are the drill until the summer wild fish move in. Move to more subtle colors.

FISHING: Poor
N.F. Stilly: 1,500 cfs. The water is down but the water vis. below Deer Creek is not conducive to surface fishing so far. Mike & Jonathan have spent time on the little Stilly. Reports of new fish are trickling in, but look for the real fishing to begin after July 4.

Cedar River - June 12th, 2004
supplied by: [#0000ff]Puget Sound Fly Company, LLC[/#0000ff]
RECORDED: [Image: mscloudy.gif] 71 ° [Image: blackSpacer.gif] FISHING: Great
The Cedar River is almost as good as it was hyped up to be! The best water for big fish can be found from Highway 18 down to the mouth. Please stop by or call Puget Sound Fly Company at 253-839-4119, if you have any more questions.

Techniques: These fish are getting a little wiser, but they still have to eat. You will find them if you are willing to hike and find the deeper slots. Don't be discouraged by the crowds, there is a lot of river to fish and most people won't walk.

Nymph fishing with a strike indicator is the most productive technique. Look for 4’-8’ of “walking speed” water with some cover.

Streamer fishing is also effective. Use either a sink tip or sinking leader with a steamer fly and an erratic retrieve.

Dry fly activity is good. Look for it to improve in the evenings and mornings, with warmer weather here.

Hatches: The Cedar is surprisingly fertile and has some good insect activity. Currently we are seeing some very good ‘Yellow Sally’ (small tan/yellow stoneflies), Pale Morning Duns, and Caddis. Unfortunately the fish aren’t always looking up during these hatches. Try mornings and evenings.

Flies: Nymphs: Bird’s Nest, Tan and Brown Sparkle Pupa, Rubber Legged Hare’s Ear, Copper John

Streamers: Conehead Muddler (olive, brown, black), Rag Sculpin, Trout Bait, P.R. Spider

Dries: Yellow Sally, Tan Elk Hair, Light Cahill, PMD, Yellow Stimulator.

FISHING: Good
The Quillayute River system is once again in the low and clear mode with the Sol-Duc River fishing best over all. Chris Senyohl did very well in there today boating 1 nice King, 2 bright Sockeye, 1 Steelhead and several beautiful Cutthroat. Chris said they did hook another King and several other Sockeye but they made good their escape before he could get a net under themSmile

Great shape today, way up from yesterday due to a major dose of agua during the night. I saw a few Sockeye in here on Friday and good friend and fellow guide Chris Senyohl did mange to pin and land a dandy Sockeye along with several big Cutthroat and two smallish but very fresh Springers. Gus Garcia had two respectable Steelhead while Gerry wright also managed to put the hoop under a big fresh Spring King. Another week or two and it will be very, very good fishing for those "Sockeye" and the incidental Summer Steelhead.
Note: It is strictly catch and release on ALL Wild Steelhead.

Had a much needed shot of rain last night so today this river is still bit off color. Hopefully will be a fresh shot of hatchery Summer Steelhead in here when it settles back in.
NOTE: Wild Steelhead catch & Release reg's are in effect.

South Puget Sound - June 12th, 2004

[#0000ff]Puget Sound Fly Company[/#0000ff] is proud to offer current fishing reports for the exciting saltwater opportunities available in the South Puget Sound. These reports come from staff fishing trips, our friends and guide Tom Wolf. Please call us at (253) 839-4119 if you are new to the area or estuary fishing in general.

FISHING: Beach fishing has picked up over the last week. Cutthroat have entered into their Summer pattern and can now be found in most of their usual haunts. Don't be afraid to moveif you don't find fish at your favorite spot, sitting still won't likely bring the fish to you, go find them!
FLIES: Clouser Minnow (Olive or Grey), Bendback, Miniceiver, Muddlers, and other assorted baitfish are always good searching patterns.

TECHNIQUES: Clear lines and a fast erratic retrieve or if you prefer... a floater and a beach slider can be very fun.
