CONCORD, N.H. -- Get in on the latest hottest craze in the fishing world -- fly-fishing for striped bass -- at a free intermediate saltwater fly-fishing class the weekend of July 24 -25. The two-day class is presented by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department's "Let's Go Fishing" program and the N.H. Division of Forest and Lands' Urban Forestry Center. The class will be held at the Urban Forestry Center at 45 Elwyn Road in Portsmouth. Class size is limited, so those interested should sign up soon. Clinic participants will learn advanced casting skills; how to read tidal water; selection of baitfish and their imitation; and hot tips for the fly angler on where to fish along New Hampshire's coast. Saturday will be a full day, including classroom program and casting. Sunday will include an overview, time for final questions and a field trip to provide an opportunity to try out your new saltwater fly-fishing skills.
"Yes, these hard-pulling fish can be tamed with a fly rod," said Mark Beauchesne, the Let's Go Fishing Coordinator for N.H. Fish and Game. "Come learn the secrets."
A limited supply of equipment is available for workshop participants to borrow. The saltwater fly-fishing program will be held rain or shine, so participants should be prepared for any type of weather. Those attending should bring their own lunch.
