Fee Increases Proposed For Some GFP Licenses
#1
PIERRE, S.D. – Fee increases for some South Dakota hunting and fishing licenses were recently proposed by the Game, Fish and Parks Commission.
"As the cost of providing existing programs and services continues to increase, and as several new projects and program enhancements have already been implemented or are being planned, it has become necessary to look for additional revenue," said Game, Fish and Parks Wildlife Director Doug Hansen. "Most nonresident and resident fees have remained unchanged since 1997 and 1999, respectively. Our commission has asked that we consider making smaller, but more frequent, adjustments to license fees to support revenue needs, rather than wait until a much larger fee increase is needed. The proposed fee adjustments should have a relatively minor impact on hunters, anglers and the business industry associated with hunting and fishing."
Hansen added that the proposed adjustments have taken into account fees being charged in surrounding states, the history of fee increases for individual license types and anticipated revenue needs for wildlife programs over the next few years. Proposed fee increases are estimated to generate $1.6 million in additional revenue.
