Deer Creek - Wallsburg Bay (7/27)
#1
Took a lunch break from tubing with my son and his friends and fished Wallsburg yesterday from 11:30-12:30 pm. Started fishing for trout, used Powerbait, no bites. Switched to motor oil grub to see if I can get some smallies. First fish, a 12" walleye to my surprise. Ended up with 2 smallmouths (9" and 12") and another walleye (14"). I was fishing close to the banks in 15-20 ft. of water. I made a couple of trolling passes with a deep diver crankbait and caught a dink smallmouth.

Thanks for the report Kastmaster, you did great for only fishing one hour. Were you fishing any where near the weed beds?

I was fishing the north side of Wallsburg Bay, just past the No Wake buoys and the campgrounds in the main state park. There were brushes sticking up, but no weedbeds per se. The banks were pretty steep, going from 15 ft. to 30 ft. in about a ten-foot span from shore, mostly rocky bottom. I didn't fish where the river comes in, I think that's where a lot of the weedbeds are.
