Adams Homestead and Nature Area Celebrates Anniversary with Games, Crafts

PIERRE, S.D. – Adams Homestead and Nature Area will celebrate seven years as a South Dakota state park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 14, with the annual Adams Homestead Celebration.
The celebration features homestead-style family activities, including making cornhusk dolls, tin punching, candle making, feather brush painting, buzz saw making, spinning, weaving and rope making. Entertainment will include storytellers, musicians and a threshing demonstration. In addition, visitors are encouraged try their hand at the watermelon seed spitting contest and the buffalo chip throwing contest. A church service in the Stavenger Church will begin the day at 9 a.m. with other activities and programs to follow.
The celebration also offers visitors a chance to explore the nature area and learn about the homestead’s rich history.
All activities, presentations and entertainment are free. A park entrance license is not[font "Arial"][#0000ff] [/#0000ff][/font][font "Arial"]required. Adams Homestead and Nature Area is located near North Sioux City, off exit 4 on Interstate 29.
