CHEROKEE LAKE
#1
The water is fairly clear and stable. Surface temperatures are 84 to 85 degrees during the daytime. In early morning you can find surface temps in the high 70's.
Fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass is fair using deep running crank baits, plastic worms or lizards, and tube jigs. Early and late fishing is best around willow trees, drop offs, and around banks.
Crappie fishing is slow. The few crappie being caught are coming from deep water along bluffs using minnows.
Striped bass and Cherokee bass are in the areas of Point 1, 4 to 12, and Point 17 on up to Point 22. (Remember the fishing closure around Cherokee Dam) Fish deep with live shad or spoons. For trolling, use 30-plus crank baits, red fins, and big jigs tipped with twister tail grubs.
Catfish can be found and caught along rocky bluffs and in creeks. Fish with night crawlers or chicken livers.
