Fort Sisseton To Host Wagon Teams, Military Shoot Labor Day Weekend

[size 2]PIERRE, S.D. - On Labor Day weekend, the Department of Game, Fish and Parks will host two special events at[#ff0000] [/#ff0000]Fort Sisseton Sate Park near Lake City: the Wagon Train and the Military Shoot.[/size]
[size 2]"The Fort Sisseton Wagon Train is designed for people with horses and wagons who want a place to drive them," said Paul Winckler, park manager. "This annual event brings these people together for an entire weekend of activities."[/size]
[size 2]The Wagon Train kicks off Friday, Sept. 3, with a tour of Cattail Lake outlet at 2 p.m. A potluck supper will follow at 7 p.m. Activities Saturday begin at 10 a.m. as the Wagonmaster leads teams on a cross-country drive through the Fort Sisseton backcountry. This longer ride is expected to last until 4 p.m., with a potluck supper at 7 p.m. Festivities conclude Sunday with a 10 a.m. final tour around Cattail Lake. [/size]
[size 2]Also that weekend, on Saturday, Sept. 4, the park will host the Military Shoot at 10 a.m. Members of the Frontier Army will show off their skills with black powder rifles in a variety of competitions. Visitors are invited to watch the competitions and visit with the demonstrators to learn more about the types and styles of guns used during that time period. [/size]
[size 2]Guided tours of the fort will be held throughout the weekend. There is no cost to participate in any of the activities, although regular camping and park entrance fees apply.[/size]
[size 2]Fort Sisseton is the site for a number of special events throughout the year. Upcoming events include the Fall Frolic in October and the Frontier Christmas in December. The park is open year-round and features guided first-person interpretive tours and a number of historical displays.[/size]
