LAKE LANIER FISHING REPORT
by Bill Vanderford

Surface temperatures at Lake Lanier have dropped below 55 degrees for the first time. Though it has fluctuated some with recent rains, the lake is slowly falling, and is now more than 15 feet below normal pool.
Low water and lower surface temperatures have increased the schooling activity, especially near the mouth of major tributaries. Jigging spoons like the 1 ounce Pirk Minnow are producing catches of multiple species below schools of baitfish at 20 to 40 feet in some of the creeks above Brown’s Bridge. Live shad, shiners, or blueback herring dropped to the same depths will also produce good catches.
Black bass are hitting 3/8th ounce Ranger jigs that are dressed with double-tailed grubs which are heavily impregnated with salt. The ideal depth seems to be 10 to 30 feet around wood structures, rocky points, or boat docks.
Much of the striped bass activity is being seen from Brown’s Bridge to just above Little River. These fish are being caught on both flat-lined live baits and by casting 1/2 ounce Road runners into visible feeding fish.
Trout fishing in the Chattahoochee River below the dam has slowed tremendously for both rainbow and browns, except in the delayed harvest area below Morgan Falls Dam near Roswell.

Living to Fish and Fishing to Live
Bill Vanderford
www.fishinglanier.com
770-962-241
