Barkely Lake
#1
Kentucky Lake: Water level at Ky Dam - 356.84 Surface Temperature - 78
Lake Barkley: Water level at Barkley Dam - 356.80 Surface Temperature - 78

Both lakes are two feet below summer pool and on a slow draw down to winter pool. Water temperatures have continued to drop with the cooler weather and as reported last week the fish are moving into fall patterns early this year. The fish patterns we are having are those that we normally experience in mid September.

The Largemouth Bass fishing on the main lake ledges is overall slow. There is some reports of fish being taken on the main lake flats near wood cover on spinnerbaits and lipless crankbaits. Largemouth are being taken in the bays on secondary points and along creek channel banks with wood cover. These fish are being taken on medium running crankbaits, Carolina and Texas rigged creature baits and tubes, spinnerbaits, and jignpig. There are some reports of fish being taken shallow in the bays near wood cover on shallow running crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and Texas rigged worms and tubes.

The Smallmouth Bass are being taken on main lake points and secondary points near the mouths of the bays on Carolina and Texas rigged creature baits and tubes as well as jignpig. The night bite on the LBL side of Ky Lake is reportedly still good with dark spinnerbaits, Texas rigged tubes, and jignpig fished on rocky primary and secondary points.

Some of the reported productive lures this week are: Norman crankbaits in white and rootbeer, Hook Some Bass spinnerbaits in blue glimmer, Hook Some bass tubes in Chameleon Craw, Hook Some Bass baby brush hounds in green pumpkin and watermelon/purple, Yamamoto Senkos in green pumpkin, Booyah spinnerbaits in black/blue (night bite), and Hook Some Bass jigs in black/blue and rootbeer.

The White Bass are moving into the bays and I have seen a few jumps this past week but of short duration. These fish can be caught by casting inline spinners and small spoons into the feeding schools.

Some reports of Crappie are now coming in enough to warrant mentioning them. These fish are being taken near the mouths of the bays along the creek channel ledges over brush piles. These fish are being taken by vertically fishing minnows, small jigs, and minnow/jig combinations.

The catfish are reportedly moving into the bays along creek channels and are being taken on bottom rigs with cut baits, nightcrawlers, and yellowtail.

I have openings this month, and also for September and October. I also am still taking requests for night trips for Smallmouth on Ky Lake until the end of this month. If you have not yet made your reservations for the fall fishing now is the time to do so. If the current weather trend continues we will be in full blown fall bite in September this year. If you are in need of a guide for some fun bass fishing, tournament preparation, lake familiarization, or technique instruction don't hesitate to give me a call or drop me an email.

The water temps have fallen to 76 and 78 degrees from the mid 80's over the past week with the cool nights and breeze. Largemouth have been hitting well on plastics along the drops the days the current is up. Some largemouth are being caught early and late feeding on minnows along the deeper gravel shorelines. Crankbaits are doing better shallow. Bluegill and red ear are showing up along the shallow gravel banks as well. Whitebass are still very spotty. Catfishing is very good in the lakes as well as below the dams. Most have been caught along the bottom during mid day. The channels have already started moving to the secondary creek channels and are feeding heavily on willow flies. Some crappie are being caught on jigs tipped with minnows in both lakes. The crappie are being caught in the secondary channels. Some are being caught as shallow as 4' to 6' on the cloudy days. More crappie fishermen are getting out now with the cooler days and cooler water.

TIP: Fish have started moving shallower now and we are seeing the first sight of fall fishing.

I have fished with Dave Stewart and I can assure you that although the majority of the soft plastic lures in his boat are Snoozers, that he also uses Zoom and Berkley products, all of which get mentioned in his report when they are catching fish just as the Snoozer's are when they are catching fish for him or those in his information network even though he is not
sponsored by them. Bottom line is that if the only lures that get mentioned in Dave's report are those that have recently been producing for him or others, no matter what name brand.
Personally I have used Snoozers Tubes as well.. My success using tubes has increased since using the specially formulated and scented baits.
While no single bait is a panacea or 100% effective, I have confidence in this specially scented bait and its production. I used Snoozers Tubes when I went to Hardy Lake about a month ago and while I did not try another bait in the jumps, I caught bass in the 12 to 14 inch range on 20 straight casts. I caught fish on the first cast and the last cast on that lake. Would another bait have worked?? I don't know, I did not bother to change baits. Would you?
If you walk into a store and they try to tell you that a bait in this report is there because they are sponsors, it is because they don't carry the bait.
