,Lower Cumberland River-Trout & Other
#1
[left][size 3]River is up and down.. Currently at Burkesville Chuck Strange of Strange Bait and Tackle is reporting that the fishing is best from noon till around 5 PM and sometimes as late as dark. The water starts dropping about 8 AM and continues to drop until around 5PM when it starts to rise again.
With the sporadic storms we are having there is no telling when the river will be on a regular schedule again.. (IE normal for a summer) Best bet is to call down to the store and ask specific questions about the fishing and the river. Also check the links we have to the COE in Nashville which regulates the lakes levels and the discharge.

Report Updated July 20, 2004
We are catching lots of Striper, but most are small, running from 15 to 30 lbs. Some of the male fish still have sperm, but we didn't catch any females this week, that had eggs. We are catching most of are Striper on Gizzard Shad, however we caught a couple small fish on Streamers. We may have to move over to Carthage and check for bigger fish.

Brown and Rainbow Trout Fishing has been excellent with most of the fish being caught on medium size spinners. Most of the time the Browns are caught early, but most of the Brown Trout lately have been caught in the middle of the day, along with the Rainbows. Some fish are being caught on Jerkbaits and crankbaits.

The Nymph Fishing has taken the largest Brown Trout for the last couple weeks. They are hitting BH GRHE, BH Pheasant Tail, and Caddis Emergers. We had several good days using large Streamers for Brown Trout and a few small
Striper. Best dry fly fishing has been with Japanese Beatles, and Sulphurs. Best wet fly has been a Blue Winged Olive fished as a dropper. [center][Image: Fred%20Striper.JPG]
