White River: Gaston's White River Resort said the river is still in a low-water stage, but the clarity is perfect. Trout fishing is really good on wax worms, corn, red worms, red-and-gold buoyant spoons, red-and-gold Super Duper Spoons, olive-green Woolly Buggers, gray sowbugs and pink San Juan worms.
Bull Shoals Tailwaters: McLellan’s Fly Shop said water levels remain low for wading most of the day, especially downstream. Scuds and sowbugs are working well the entire length of the river. Sculpins and crayfish are a good bet in the Rim Shoals area. The fish should be seeing enough terrestrials now to take a hopper or ant pattern. Best flies have been: McLellan’s Hunchback Scud Tan (14 to 16), McLellan’s Hunchback Scud Dirty Orange (14 to 16), Red Fox Squirrel Nymph (12 to16), Little Brown Bug (14 to 16), Softex Scud (14 to18), Gorilla Hopper, Dave’s Hopper (8 to 12), March Brown Spider (12 to 14), Rag Sculpin (6) and Baby ‘Dad (10).
North Fork River: McLellan’s Fly Shop said generation has been starting mid to late afternoon. Craneflies are beginning to hatch mid-river with adult patterns fooling plenty of fish. Terrestrials are a good bet at this time, and fishing with hoppers, beetles or ants provides a nice alternative to fishing with strike indicators. Scuds and midges are reliable all day. Best flies have been: McLellan’s Hunchback Scud Tan (14 to16), McLellan’s Hunchback Scud Olive (14 to16), Yong Special (20 to 22), Jujubee Midge (20 to 24), Mercury Black Beauty (20 to 22), Gray Mercury Midge (20 to 22), Johnny Flash (20 to 24), Adult Crane Fly, Dave’s Hopper (8 to 12) and Club Sandwich (8).
Bull Shoals Lake: Lead Hill Boat Dock said the lake is clear and at a normal level. The water temperature is 78 degrees. Bluegills and perch are good on crickets and worms. Walleye fishing is slow. Bass fishing is fair 30- to 35-feet deep over rocky points using crawfish. Catfish are pretty good using jug lines on the main lake and trotlines back in the coves.
Lake Norfork: Cranfield Junction Quik Stop said the lake clarity is decent, and the level is almost normal. The water temperature still hasn’t warmed up this year. Fishermen are catching several walleye, but they seem to have scattered. Crappie fishing is pretty good using minnows fished 30- to 35-feet deep in brush piles or structure. Bass fishing is good both early in the morning and late evening using hula grubs, buzzbaits and jigs. However, the bass appear to have a soft bite, and it takes close observation to catch them. Striper fishing is excellent trolling deep with chartreuse-and-white Roadrunners. Catfish are being taken using a rod and reel baited with night crawlers. Try fishing on the bottom around the flats.
