how to determine the age of a summer flounder

i caught a 25 inch female the other day and i was just wondering how old it might be it weighed about 8 or 9 pounds<br><br>tia<br><br>

HI Tia,

that is an exclent question,

I would venture to say, maybe two posibly three years.

the species would be a real deciding factor, a couple years back one angler pulled up a 500 pound flounder.

the one you have could be at its maximum lenth and girth for its species and the fish could be twenty years old.

I am sure in a day or so one of our salt water pro's will have a better answer for you than what I can offer.

any way congradulations on your catch. those are impresive fishes at the size.

I concur with ya bro. Those are very much like Halibut that we have on the west coast.

On the avereage, they can grow about a pound a year. The 500 pounder that was aforementioned was propbably on the way to a Weight Watchers meeting.[cool]
