Volunteers needed for fall salmon C.A.R.E. program
Information on the upcoming program:
State Conservation Officers are seeking sportspersons and local residents to
assist DNR Officers in monitoring fall salmon runs in the Lexington Harbor,
Sanilac County.
Citizens Assisting in Resource Enforcement (C.A.R.E ) invite anglers and
other concerned residents to help deter illegal activity during the peak
period of the salmon runs. Resident volunteers provide a good, visible
presence in the harbors, and helps reduce illegal activities like snagging,
littering, and other violations, said Lt. Nick Heary. By serving as
additional eyes and ears in the harbors these volunteers are helping to
ensure that fair and ethical behavior prevails during the fall salmon runs.
We look forward to implementation of the C.A.R.E program.
C.A.R.E program volunteers are asked to attend a brief training session on
September 15, 2004 at 7:00 pm at the Lexington Twp Fire Hall. The fire hall
is located at 7227 Huron Street (M-90) just down from the light at M-25.
This training will consist of your level of involvement and what you should
do if you see illegal activity, and a demonstration of illegal gear as well
as legal gear. The schedule patrols are set for September 25, 26, 27, 28,
29, 30, and October 1, 2. The times of the patrols will be from 5:00 pm to
9:00 pm each night.
