[size 2]PIERRE, S.D. – For the second year in a row, visitors to Custer State Park will be able to take home the experience on a collectable lapel pin.[/size]
[size 2]The park announced the arrival of the collector's lapel pin for the upcoming buffalo round-up, which will be held Monday, Oct. 4. [/size]
[size 2]"The collector's pins were started last year and immediately became a hit for park supporters across the state and around the country. We ordered a limited supply, and they sold out within three weeks," said Bradley Block, Chief of Interpretation for the park. "This year, we ordered a larger supply to hopefully accommodate the interest; however, once they are gone, they're gone. We want the pins to be a memento for one of South Dakota's largest and most popular special events." [/size]
[size 2]The 2004 pin design features three bison running across the pin's face, embossed in a red and blue color. The pin is attached to an interpretive card, which describes the management role of the bison within Custer State Park. [/size]
[size 2]The lapel pins are made available through the Black Hills Parks and Forests Association and are for sale at the Peter Norbeck Visitor Center and Wildlife Station Visitor Center. The collector's pins cost $2.95, plus tax and shipping and handling if applicable. The supply is limited to 1500 pins; there will be no reorders. [/size]
[size 2]"The collector pins not only provide visitors and park supporters with an excellent souvenir," Block noted, "but the purchases greatly assist the park's overall outdoor education program."[/size]
[size 2]The Black Hills Parks and Forests Association works in cooperation with Custer State Park by selling various interpretive and educational materials within each visitor center. Portions of the proceeds are directly returned back to the park in the form of financial aid. The aid account assists the park with purchasing educational materials and funding exhibitory projects. Most importantly, the materials help visitors treasure their vacation memories by inviting them into learning more about the park's natural and cultural resources. Each outlet provides identification guides, history references, wildlife videos and postcards. [/size]
