Fort Sisseton Celebrates Fall With Family Crafts, Demonstrations

[size 2]PIERRE, S.D. – Celebrate autumn on Oct. 2. with an afternoon of crafts and historical demonstrations at Fort Sisseton Historic State Park near Lake City. Family activities that will run from noon to 4 p.m. are part of the park’s Fall Frolic event. [/size]
[size 2]Visitors can take part in numerous arts and crafts activities, including making pressed flower crafts, bookmarks, shaving cream cards, silhouette drawing and leaf prints. There will also be children’s face painting and Pockets the clown will entertain with balloon animals.[/size]
[size 2]The fort's blacksmith and carpenter will be on hand to provide demonstrations of their skills. At the carpenter’s shop, visitors can test their skill at using a two-person saw or making rope. Demonstrations on pioneer cooking will take place throughout the afternoon, and visitors are invited to stop by for a taste.[/size]
[size 2]"In addition to the planned activities, we want to encourage people to tour and explore the fort’s buildings," said Paul Winkler, Park Manager. "The cool fall air makes for a great walk around the fort, all while learning more about the area’s unique history."[/size]
[size 2]In addition, tours by fort soldier re-enactors will be available to guide visitors and provide information about the historic fort. [/size]
